1.14 understand that friction is a force that opposes motion

Friction is the force that causes moving objects to slow down and eventually stop.

Friction depends on the type of surface as well as what kind of material and if there is a lubricating substance present.

Friction opposes motion and often converts the kinetic energy of the moving object into a lot of wasted heat energy. This is why in some circumstances, friction is reduced to conserve energy.
